FP Insurance desired to make its in-house verification web application for insurance claims, available to external vendors. They wanted to do this without having to give access to their internal computer system. Additionally, they required no change in programming model and wanted the added disaster recovery benefit of a cloud based application would give them. Homnick Systems created a “Lift and Shift” scenario into the Amazon Web Services that lifted their web application and SQL Server implementations into two Amazon EC2 instances that incorporated Auto-Scaling Groups for High Availability. A Virtual Private Gateway using an OpenVPN tunnel allowed them to seamlessly implement their SQL Linked Server approach without changing the application code. The AWS Cloud allowed for external access to their application without making code changes and not allowing external vendors access to their in-house system.
